Connect SMTP/IMAP accounts

Connect any email provider using SMTP credentials. This works with SiteGround, cPanel, GoDaddy, and custom mail servers.

When to Use SMTP/IMAP

Use SMTP/IMAP connection when:

  • Your email is hosted on SiteGround, cPanel, or similar hosting providers
  • You have a custom mail server
  • OAuth isn't available or blocked by your admin
  • Your email provider isn't Google or Microsoft

What You'll Need

  • Your email address
  • SMTP server hostname (e.g., smtp.yourdomain.com)
  • SMTP port (usually 587 or 465)
  • SMTP username (usually your email address)
  • SMTP password (your email password)

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Navigate to Email Accounts

From your Outlio dashboard, click on Email Accounts in the left sidebar, then click Add New.

2

Troubleshooting

"Connection failed" error

Common causes:

  • Incorrect hostname - double check with your provider
  • Wrong port - try both 587 and 465
  • Incorrect username - usually it's your full email address
  • Wrong password - reset it in your email control panel
"Authentication failed" error
Your username or password is incorrect. Make sure you're using your email account password, not your hosting account password. If you have 2FA enabled, you may need to create an app-specific password.
"Connection timed out" error
The server didn't respond. This could be a firewall issue or incorrect hostname. Try using a different port (switch between 587 and 465), or check with your hosting provider.
